About BRAVA
Our mission: The Bowie Regional Arts Vision Association, Inc. (BRAVA) supports the Bowie Center for the Performing Arts by ensuring that all community members can access the arts. BRAVA advocates for facility improvements, promotes arts education, and expands programming beyond the school to enrich the entire community, recognizing that art serves as the foundation for community connection and growth – so that all may enjoy!
In practice, this means fundraising, grant acquisition, capital stewardship, and serving as the community’s direct voice in BCPA’s governance — and as the primary nonprofit applicant for grant funding that supports BCPA’s programming, operations, and capital needs.
BRAVA History
BRAVA is a Maryland-incorporated 501(c)(3) nonprofit and co-equal governance partner of the Bowie Center for the Performing Arts (BCPA). BRAVA is one of four founding co-governing parties to the BCPA Joint Use Agreement (JUA), signed April 2006, alongside Prince George’s County Public Schools (PGCPS), the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission (MNCPPC), and the City of Bowie.
BRAVA was formed in direct response to a community call for a civic performing arts facility in Bowie. We raised and contributed $952,000 in private funds toward the construction of the $13.6 million BCPA facility. Today, BRAVA holds a required seat on the BCPA Governance Board – the body that sets operational policy for the facility and must approve the hiring of the Executive Director and Technical Director. BRAVA’s representative is required for quorum under Article 4 of the JUA.
